Malware Removal
Malware, a blend of the words malicious and software, is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent. The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code. Malware includes computer viruses, worms, trojan horses, most rootkits, spyware, dishonest adware, crime ware, ransomware, scareware and other malicious and unwanted software. (Reference Wikipedia)
Recovering a computer seriously infected by malware can be difficult and time consuming. Malware scans can take from 1.5 to 2 hours dependant on the size of the system and may not be totally successful. As a policy we do not attempt to recover infected systems during home help visits. Generally the only sure way of removing serious infections is to re-install the system and in the end may be the quickest and most economically viable option. In such a case the above workshop rates apply.
We strongly recommend that your computer is protected by a comprehensive Internet Protection Suite that includes a two-way Firewall (the Windows XP firewall is one-way) and Anti-Virus & Anti-Spyware Protection, i.e. from manufacturers such as AVG, F-Secure, Kaspersky, Norton, McAfee (remember the adage about "closing barn doors after the horse has bolted"). Once the infection has been removed, Halcon Consultancy cannot accept responsibility for any subsequent infection caused by connection to the Internet or by downloaded email.

Notes
- We will only install software that has genuine licensed product keys (See Ts & Cs Page).
- For a system reinstallation where there is no recovery partition on the HDD, the customer must provide an original Windows Operating System disk and Microsoft Windows Product Key, or the OEM recovery disk provided when the computer was purchased. Also, any driver disks supplied when the machine was purchased will be required.
- We do not normally support Windows operating systems predating Windows XP, i.e. Windows 95, 98, 98SE and Millennium, as Microsoft has withdrawn support from them and they are incompatible with the most recent versions of Internet Security products.
- We do not normally provide support for dial up internet access. Checking the connections and obtaining downloads, e.g. drivers, is time consuming and thus costly.
- The cost of any computer components or peripherals is not included in any of the above prices.
- Replacement of Hard Disc Drives (HDDs) is usually carried out at the workshop.
